Old School RuneScape, a popular MMORPG released in 2003, is now promoting a player mod that was originally blocked from release. The game’s developer Jagex has said that the decision to allow the mod was made because it doesn’t want to be viewed as an “arbiter of what players can and cannot do.”
Old School RuneScape, a popular online game for PC and mobile devices, has been promoting the release of a player mod that was originally blocked.
It’s been fascinating to see Jagex flip from a decision to prohibit high-definition modifications in Old School RuneScape to aggressively encouraging them over the last week.
Originally, the studio said that it was altering its third-party modding restrictions to exclude HD modifications, despite the fact that Jagex was working on one. However, after a backlash from fans of one specific mod, RuneLite HD, Jagex spoke with the modder and eventually changed its decision.
Jagex is now promoting the arrival of RuneLite HD, perhaps to win back the favor of enraged gamers.
“Following last week’s announcement that we had struck a deal with 117Scape, we are delighted to announce that their long-awaited HD Plugin is now freely available,” the studio stated. “The HD Plugin for 117Scape, which is accessible via RuneLite’s Plugin Hub, is community-driven, and Jagex cannot provide direct support or help to users experiencing problems with either the client or the HD Plugin.”
“You’ll soon witness the return of a redesigned Gielinor Gazette, which will chronicle the recent progress made on our C++ game client and its new features, including the mobile client’s improvements that we aim to deliver you this year,” Jagex stated.
