Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann, Messi’s former striker mates, have written heartfelt goodbye tributes to the Barcelona legend.
Despite a stalemate seeming to be overcome with Messi agreeing to accept a 50% salary cut, the Argentine’s 21-year relationship with the Catalan giants came to an abrupt end earlier this week.
Barcelona, on the other hand, was unable to comply to La Liga’s stringent wage limit regulations and was obliged to let the 34-year-old depart as a free agent.

Suarez, who left Barcelona for Atletico Madrid last summer, established a lethal combination with Messi during his six years at the club and became close friends with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.
‘I know there are enough of words to describe the narrative you created at Barcelona,’ Suarez said on Instagram in response to Messi’s exit from Barcelona. The club that has seen you develop, the club that you adore, and the club that has seen you earn so many championships till you became the greatest payer ever.
‘Because of what a wonderful human being you are, I will always be thankful for how you have treated me since I came.’ I’m proud to have spent hundreds of great moments with you in Barcelona and to have had the opportunity to play with you.

‘I truly hope that whatever occurs in the future is in your and your family’s best interests. ‘I adore you,’ says the narrator.
Grizemann, however, has had a difficult time since joining Barcelona from Atletico Madrid. He has been accused of undermining Messi’s impact on the field and has been forced to deny a split between the two.

As word of Messi’s leaving spread outside Camp Nou on Friday, the France international was booed, but Griezmann offered a loving homage to the club’s all-time goalscorer.
‘The only thing I can say to you, and that every soccer fan will think about, is THANK YOU!’ he wrote. Thank you very much for all you did in Barcelona! You’ve altered everything for the city, for the club… I am certain that this is not a farewell, but rather a see you later, and that your paths will cross with FC Barcelona again.
‘I wish you and your family nothing but happiness wherever you go.’ Few people understand what it takes to be Messi, and you were an inspiration to me in every aspect.’
